INEC warns Edo political parties to end campaigns before Thursday midnight

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Edo State from August 22 to September 8, 2024, in preparation for the upcoming governorship election on September 21.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, announced this on Monday during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja.

Prof. Yakubu emphasized that PVCs will only be issued to valid registrants and that no proxies will be allowed to collect the cards.

He provided details on the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Edo State, which saw 119,206 new voters registered.

Additionally, 8,847 voters transferred their registration from other states to Edo, while 46,171 voters transferred their registration within the state.

The INEC Chairman reported that 184,438 voters, including those who applied for corrections or replacements of lost or damaged PVCs, would receive new voter cards.

He confirmed that all PVCs have been printed and delivered to INEC’s office in Benin City, and are now ready for collection by voters.

Yakubu also mentioned that INEC is finalizing the schedule for PVC collection in Ondo State, where the governorship election is set for November. He assured voters in Ondo that details for PVC collection would be announced soon.
