INEC chairman speaks on Tribunal ruling sacking Adeleke

Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), recently addressed the reports that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) failed during the Osun State Governorship Election.

He stated that the BVAS did not fail during the election and was not on trial.

Yakubu, who was in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to monitor the BVAS mock accreditation exercise, said that the INEC had learned some lessons from the judgement handed down by the Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal, who recently sacked Ademola Adeleke as the governor of the state for over-voting.

However, Yakubu declined to comment further on the matter as it is still in court.

He added that INEC has taken the experience to improve its processes for the next election.
