"I'm always proud to be part of Liverpool" -- Virgil van Dijk

In a thrilling Carabao Cup final clash at Wembley on Sunday, Liverpool emerged victorious over Chelsea with a 1-0 win in extra time, courtesy of a decisive goal from their captain, Virgil van Dijk.

Despite having a headed goal disallowed earlier in the game following a VAR review, Van Dijk found redemption in the 118th minute, expertly nodding in Kostas Tsimikas’ corner kick.

The atmosphere erupted into jubilation as Van Dijk’s goal sealed Liverpool’s record 10th League Cup triumph.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, the Dutch center-back expressed his immense pride in the team’s collective effort, especially highlighting the contributions of the younger players.

“It means so much,” Van Dijk exclaimed. “All the young boys on the pitch, if you see the extra-time, it’s incredible. I’m so proud of the team.”

Reflecting on the intense battle against Chelsea, he emphasized the significance of the victory, particularly as his first trophy as Liverpool’s captain.

“Savour the good moments,” Van Dijk urged, acknowledging the challenges they faced both before and during the game.

“We will never take these things for granted… I am so proud. I’m always proud to be part of this club but especially proud of the boys. They all played their part so it’s all credit to the team.”

The win marks a significant milestone for Liverpool and their supporters, who will undoubtedly relish this triumph as they continue their pursuit of further success in the season.
