The Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) says it has generated over N41.8 billion as revenue to the coffers of the state between Jan. and Oct.

Mr Adekunle Adeosun, Chairman of OGIRS, disclosed this while defending the agency’s 2018 budget estimate before the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation at the assembly complex, Abeokuta.

Adeosun said that the revenue was generated from personal tax, road taxes, withholding taxes, direct assessment, pool betting and casino, motor vehicle licence and others.

The Chairman noted that the agency had proposed to generate N84 billion as revenue in 2018 fiscal year.

He added that the agency had earmarked N3.5 billion as its recurrent expenditure for 2018, while capital expenditure would gulp N850 million.

Adeosun said that financial autonomy would go a long way in making the agency to achieve its objectives, adding that all the money generated went straight to the Ministry of Finance.

He explained that the agency would monitor compliance with statutory tax payment requirements, create and maintain database of taxpayers.

The chairman said that government had mapped out plans to improve the tax revenue of the state by 31 per cent.

“The agency will spend N331 million for the purchase of buses in 2018 for better performance,’’ he said.
