"If we disrespect them, we have problems" — Eguavoen

The Super Eagles may be playing on home turf, but caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen is urging his players to avoid any complacency as they prepare to face the Cheetahs of Benin Republic.

With memories still fresh from their shocking 2-1 defeat to Gernot Rohr’s side in the last World Cup qualifier, Eguavoen is stressing the importance of treating their opponents with the respect they deserve.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo promises to be a battle, and Eguavoen knows that underestimating the Beninoise could spell trouble for the Super Eagles.

Finidi George resigns as Super Eagles coach

“If you disrespect people, you will have a problem,” he cautioned, reminding his team that while they may be at home, the Cheetahs have already shown they can bite.

As kickoff approaches, Eguavoen’s message is clear: respect the Cheetahs or risk another upset. Will the Super Eagles rise to the occasion, or will history repeat itself? All eyes will be on Uyo this Saturday.

Coach Eguavoen takes over after the Nigerian Football Federation made a mess of a managerial decision by announcing a German manager, Bruno Labbadia as Super Eagles boss before any agreement was made.
