If I see my boyfriend’s mother sweeping, I will not help her with it – Nigerian podcaster
In a recent podcast discussion, a Nigerian lady expressed her perspective on a cultural practice related to sweeping in her boyfriend’s family house.
She stated that if her boyfriend takes her to his family house for the first time and she sees his mother sweeping, she would not take the broom from her.
During the podcast, she emphasized that the intention behind the act is what matters to her.
In her opinion, if a man is introducing his lover to his mother, it is expected that they would have already swept the house before the girlfriend’s arrival.
As she considers herself just a girlfriend, she feels that she should not be put in the position of taking over the chore.
The young woman further explained that if the mother started sweeping before they walked in, she would understand the context.
However, she firmly stated that she would not take over the task if it began after their arrival.
Contrary to her viewpoint, the other ladies on the podcast disagreed with her stance.
They argued that the circumstances should not matter, as it is a sign of respect and good upbringing for the girlfriend to take the broom from the woman and continue the chore.
