Ibrahim Babangida arrested for kidnapping

A high profile kidnapper, Ibrahim Babangida has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police command.

He was arrested in Yola, the state’s capital, alongside three others for kidnapping a nursing mother and her daughter.

In a statement released by DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, on Thursday,  Ibrahim Babangida was said to be behind the attack on the Ngurore police station.

According to the statement, heavily armed suspected kidnappers attacked the police station at about 2:00 a.m. and kidnapped a woman, Hauwa Umaru and her daughter.

Mr Nguroje said operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit of the state command arrested the suspects on Thursday and recovered one AK-47 rifle with 16 rounds of live ammunition.

“The breakthrough that led to the arrest of the suspects began with the arrest of one Buba Ibrahim aka Babangida, 20, a native of Wuro Bilal village, Ngurore District, Yola South LGA,” the statement said. “Ibrahim Babangida is one of the principal suspects in the kidnap operation. The confession of the suspect revealed how they abducted Hauwa Umaru, her daughter and one Alhaji Bahago of Ibbare and also attacked the Ngurore police station.”

The statement added that the police were assisted by some hunters who apprehended other three members of the kidnap gang.

The police identified the suspects as Tumba Alhaji Dan Bappa, 25, a native of Ibbare district, Yola south LGA; Buba Alhaji Abdu, a resident of Ibbare, Ngurore District; and Abdullahi Lawal, a resident of Lau local government area in Taraba.

Mr Nguroje said the suspects were also part of a seven-man syndicate terrorising Adamawa and Taraba.

He further explained that the suspects would be charged to court on completion of investigations.
