Yeni Kuti,

In a recent candid conversation with notable media personality, Chude Jideonwo, Yeni Kuti, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s media landscape, stated that infidelity would not compel her to leave her marriage.

She further highlighted her family history as a factor that has shaped her perspective on this issue.

Yeni, in her sixties, drew attention to her late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, who was renowned for his polygamous lifestyle, having been married to 27 women. Yet, her mother chose to remain in the marriage, a decision that has had a profound influence on Yeni’s own approach to marital fidelity.

Yeni voiced her stance unequivocally, saying, “I won’t leave my husband if he is cheating. That is me.” She went on to highlight the importance of individual choice, asserting, “You can leave your own husband if he is cheating. That is you.” Yeni urged people not to judge her decision, just as she refrains from passing judgement on the choices of others.

Yeni further reinforced her stance by saying, “My father had 27 wives, my mother didn’t go. It’s me that will now come and go because of one girl. It cannot happen.” Through her statements, Yeni promotes the understanding that each individual’s approach to marriage and fidelity is shaped by their personal experiences and beliefs.
