“I will be surprised if Maresca is not under threat soon” — Collymore
Former Liverpool star, Stan Collymore does not see a bright future for former Leicester City boss, Enzo Maresca at Chelsea.
According to the former striker, the incoming Chelsea manager will face undue pressure by the Christmas period next season. Collymore criticized Chelsea’s decision to appoint Maresca, arguing that the club should have retained Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea recently parted ways with Pochettino and is on the verge of officially announcing Maresca as his successor at Stamford Bridge.
In his column for CaughtOffside, Collymore expressed his skepticism about the appointment:
“I would be absolutely astounded if, when we get to Christmas, there are not rumblings about Maresca’s position already being under threat because it is a young, fickle, rookie group.”
Collymore described Maresca’s appointment as “underwhelming” and maintained that sticking with Pochettino would have been a wiser choice. He predicted that by November or December, Chelsea might again be contemplating another managerial change.
The Chelsea hierarchy made a divisive decision to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino after the Argentine turned things around late on to win 6th position for the Blues prior to the end of the season.
