"I was taken out of context" -- Virgil van Dijk clears air

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk recently shook the media space when he echoed skepticism over his long term future at Liverpool following Jurgen Klopp’s exit at the end of the season.

Rumors, speculations and narratives were born out of his statement, and now, while speaking with Men In Blazers, the Centre Back has addressed the media space to clarify the misconception.

The Liverpool defender restates his commitment to the club, telling Men In Blazers that he is 100 percent still committed to the project and the fans.

Virgil van Dijk went further to state that his prior statement was taken out of context, clarifying he was not speaking as a singular voice but for the team.

He said;

“Let’s make it clear. I am 100% committed to the club, I love the fans. It is fully taken out if context,”

“It’s not about me, it’s about us. Five days ago we weren’t even talking about my contract, so it’s a bit silly!”

In his previous comments, the Netherlands international was quizzed about his contract situation at the club and the project moving beyond Jurgen Klopp, to which Virgil van Dijk said;

“Listen, I don’t know. The club will have a big job on their hands. That is well known. To replace the manager and replace not only the manager, the staff is leaving, and there are so many things that will change.

“So the club has a big job on its hands and I am very curious which direction that will go in. But when that will be announced we will see our situation. I can’t say much about it.”
