“I was happy to do that” — Ademola Lookman on AFCON

Ademola Lookman, the forward for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has disclosed the standout moment of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations that sent shivers down his spine. Lookman, who emerged as Nigeria’s top scorer in the tournament, notched three crucial goals, notably finding the net against Cameroon and Angola in the knockout stages.

Speaking to Calister Enejele, Ademola Lookman expressed his elation at clinching the title of the team’s highest goal scorer, stating,

“Very happy. Obviously being an attacking player, you always want to help the team in that way, so very glad. I was happy to do that, the team was amazing and everybody helped out.”

However, it was one particular goal that left an indelible mark on Lookman’s memory. Reflecting on his standout moment, Lookman singled out his second goal against Cameroon, citing the electrifying celebrations that ensued.

“The second goal against Cameroon, I think with the celebrations and everything after that. It was crazy with the team, that was probably the highlight,” Lookman recounted.

Ademola Lookman was one of Nigeria’s shinning light in the AFCON, with his performance yielding crucial goals to either take the Super Eagles into the next round or give the boys in Green a breather against their opponents.
