I want to play the World Cup—Timo Werner cries

Chelsea and German forward, Timo Werner has lamented over his situation at Stamford Bridge ahead of the coming 2022/23 season after the prior campaign ended with him seeing few playing chances in the team.

It was one of those situations in which the German now believes could hurt his World Cup chances for Germany.

The 26 year old saw a disappointing season where he was relegated to making only 15 Premier League starts with only 4 goals where he had to watch fellow Germany compatriot, Kai Havertz see game time ahead of him.

With Lukaku leaving Stamford Bridge for Inter Milan, and Raheem Sterling getting into the team this summer, things could look further dire with Timo Werner as competition grows in Thomas Tuchel’s set up.

Speaking over whether he would want a move or was happy at staying in Chelsea next season, the German said:

“I could be happy everywhere,” hinting he wouldn’t be bothered over leaving the Blues this summer.

“It is clear I want to play more and I should play more to first be in good shape for the World Cup and also to have a chance to play at the World Cup,” he told talkSPORT.

“It doesn’t change anything whether it is a winter World Cup or in the summer. I think if I play half of the season or the whole season, I should play. It doesn’t change anything in my mind.

“The manager always has different ideas, different thoughts and what you need in different games.

“In many games, I was not in his thoughts so I try to change that. It is not different to last season, it was the same when Romelu came. We had big, big competition. It’s still the same.”
