I Never Thought I Will Be Back—Neymar
Neymar Jr. was minutes away from having the worse world cup in a Brazil shirt after he sustained an injury in Brazil’s second group stage fixture, with reports wide that he may not recover in time for the knock out phases.
Flash forward to the present, the Paris Saint Germain forward not only recovered in time for the knock out phase but was fit enough to earn a starting berth against South Korea on Monday night.
Neymar, currently a striker for Brazil, has expressed concern over not being able to participate in the 2022 World Cup.
The former Barcelona man sustained an ankle injury against Serbia in the opening game.
The five-time champions advanced to the Round of 16, thus the 30-year-old missed the remainder of the group stages.
But on Monday night, he returned as the Selecao defeated South Korea 4-1 to go to the quarterfinals.
Neymar also scored, moving him one goal shy of Pele’s 77-goal international record with a penalty.
“When I got injured, I had a very difficult night.
“I was thinking of a million different things and I was afraid I might not be able to play in this World Cup again, but I had the support of all my colleagues, my family and I tried to look for strength where I could not find it,” Neymar said afterward.
