I feel for them -- Jamie Carragher on Arsenal stars

Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher, has expressed sympathy for Arsenal defenders Rob Holding and Gabriel Magalhaes following their 4-1 loss to Manchester City on April 26 at the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking on The Overlap, Carragher stated that he believed the Arsenal defenders were left exposed by their teammates during the match, particularly against the duo of Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

Despite a consolation goal from Holding, de Bruyne scored two goals while Haaland and John Stones scored one goal each. Carragher remarked, “But for me, in terms of Holding and Gabriel, I will throw it to you [the fan on the show] about Arsenal, but as a centre-back watching that, I actually felt for them. I don’t think they got anywhere near enough protection.”

Carragher’s comments came after Arsenal’s 4-1 defeat to Manchester City that left them ninth on the English Premier League table with 49 points from 34 games played so far this season. The result also saw the Gunners’ hopes of qualifying for the Europa League diminish.

Arsenal will next face Unai Emery’s Villarreal in the semi-finals of the Europa League on April 29, and Mikel Arteta’s team will be hoping to secure a victory to keep their hopes of securing a European spot alive.
