“I don’t wish this on anyone” — Harry Maguire’s mother, Zoe

The media and fan banter have come to see England international, Harry Maguire as the gift that keeps on giving, whether in instances that supports the narrative or not, it seems Harry will always be front and center of the joke.

This has pushed the Manchester United defender’s mother to release a public statement hitting at the press, and pundits for their constant condemnation of her son.

Harry Maguire came on the media discussion following his inclusion into the England squad heading into the international break, with each appearance the Centre-Back made for the Three Lions attracting a different narrative of its own.

Taking to the media space, Zoe Maguire slams the negative and abusive treatments the fans have pushed on her son, calling it disgraceful and unacceptable for anyone let alone a footballer who gives his all for both country and club.

“As a mum, seeing the level of negative and abusive comments in which is receiving from some fans, pundits and the media is disgraceful and totally unacceptable to any walk of life never mind someone who works his socks off for club and country,” Zoe said.

She also revealed how the vile fan chants against Harry Maguire from the stands have become, hitting at fandoms for creating out something over nothing.

“I was there in the stands as usual, it’s not acceptable what’s been created over nothing”.

“I understand that in world of football there are ups and downs, positive and negatives but what Harry receives has gone far beyond football”.

“For me seeing him go through what’s he’s going through is not ok. I’d hate to have to see other parents or players go through this in future, especially young boys and girls breaking through the ranks today”.

The England Centre-Back had come on to the media to admit the pain seeing the criticisms he has been faced have made him feel, but admits to having the mental strength to handle them, a statement also corroborated by his mother.

“Harry has a massive heart and it’s a good job he’s mentally strong and can handle it as others may not be able too,”

“I wish this sort of abuse on nobody”.
