Ederson on Alisson Becker snub

Manchester City goalkeeper, Ederson, expressed surprise at the decision by the Brazilian national team to snub Liverpool’s Alisson Becker for the upcoming international break.

The Brazil team will play a friendly match against Morocco on Saturday, which is their only game for the March international break.

Brazil’s interim coach, Ramon Menezes, had earlier revealed his 23-man squad for the fixture, with many surprise omissions from the list.

Alisson Becker, who has been the first-choice goalkeeper for the Brazilian team since around 2016, was among the notable absentees.

Ederson, who is Alisson’s direct rival for the Brazil goalkeeper spot, admitted that he was surprised by the decision to leave the Liverpool goalkeeper out of the squad. “The first moment I saw the list I was surprised, but it’s the coach’s decision,” he said.

Despite the snub, Ederson was full of praise for his teammate, describing him as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. “Alisson is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and he has been showing that for many years. He is a great goalkeeper, a great person, and a great teammate.”

When asked about the reason for Alisson’s exclusion, Ederson said he was unsure but speculated that it could be a matter of giving younger players an opportunity. “I do not know why, if it is a matter of opportunities for younger players,” he said.

Alisson Becker has been a key player for Liverpool this season, making 26 appearances in all competitions and keeping 11 clean sheets. His absence from the Brazil squad has raised questions about the decision by the national team’s coaching staff, but for now, it remains to be seen if he will be recalled for future fixtures.
