I don’t need the Spotlight—Haaland begs

I don’t need the spotlight, Erling Haaland pleads the media over the recent comparisons with him and football’s biggest stars, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

That to him, signifies the difference between him and the stars, with the only comparison being the fact he only likes to get into the box to score goals like they do.

New Manchester City boy, Erling Haaland hasn’t proved quite himself on arrival to the English Champions, and had drawn quite the criticism for his Community Shield miss against Liverpool.

Speaking in a recent interview, the Norwegian states that he will not crave any spotlight like other stars in the football world even those he says he grew up idolizing in Cristiano Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic.

Haaland revealed this while speaking in a conversation with Sky Sports ahead of Manchester City’s first Premier League game against West Ham United on Sunday.

In a surprise move, the Norway international joined the Etihad side from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £51 million this summer, despite all the hype on his transfer fee.

Speaking to the press on the season opener, Haaland said:

“I don’t need this [the spotlight, like Ronaldo or Ibrahimovic]. I love to have a joke on Instagram here and there, but other than that, I like to relax and have fun. Basically, enjoy what I’m doing.

“I’m a player that’s hungry for goals, gives 100 percent and wants to win every single game. As a person, I’m a quiet person, I love to laugh and have fun. But in the end, I’m a relaxed person.”
