"I don't have long" -- Anthony Joshua hints at what's coming next

In a recent revelation, British heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua has disclosed his retirement plans, indicating his intention to step away from the sport after turning 37 in 2026.

Joshua’s journey to the pinnacle of boxing has been marked by remarkable highs and challenging lows, including losses of his WBF and IBA titles on two occasions.

Currently, he is striving to reclaim the belts for a third time, with his sights set on the much-anticipated heavyweight bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk scheduled for May 2024, followed by a potential rematch in 2025.

However, the timeline leaves Joshua with little room for a fairytale conclusion to his career, prompting him to consider retirement within the next couple of years.

Speaking on the Jonathan Ross show via Marca, Anthony Joshua disclosed his retirement plans, stating,

“I’ve always said 35. I’m 35 in October, I’m thinking another two years or so if my body holds out.”

Despite his retirement plans, Joshua remains focused on his upcoming bouts, with his next opponent expected around September. He expressed a desire to challenge the winner of Fury versus Usyk, emphasizing the need for patience while awaiting his opportunity.

In the wake of Joshua’s recent victory over Francis Ngannou, Matchroom Sport chief Eddie Hearn hailed him as the best heavyweight in the world, affirming plans for Anthony Joshua to face the winner of Fury versus Usyk.

Hearn urged Fury to emerge victorious, envisioning a historic showdown that would captivate the world of boxing.
