"I don't care anymore" -- Mikel Arteta blasts the Premier League

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta was by far a very angry man after the 1-0 defeat of Arsenal by Newcastle United at the Saint James’ Park on Saturday evening.

The game which followed the same narrative that has plagued the premier league this season, had a couple of VAR controversial decisions that inevitably defined the result of the game.

The Spaniard in his post-match interview was livid and had quite a lot to rant about to the media.

The lone goal that resulted in a 1-0 loss for Arsenal came after a cross that was sent into the box had camera angles showing the ball already out of play before the ball was sent in for Anthony Gordon to slot into the net in the 64th minute.

Speaking post match, Mikel Arteta said;

“We have to talk about the result because we have to talk about how the hell this goal stands up,”

“It’s incredible. I feel embarrassed, but I have to be the one to come in here and try to defend the club and please ask for help because it’s an absolute disgrace that this goal is allowed.”

When pressed about why he found the decision a disgrace, Mikel Arteta responded,

“Because it’s not a goal, for many reasons it’s not a goal, but for more than one reason at least. There’s too much at stake here.

“We put in so much effort; it’s so difficult to compete at this level, and it’s an absolute disgrace. I feel embarrassed. I have been more than 20 years in this country, and this is nowhere near the level to describe it as the best league in the world.”

Arteta was particularly incensed by the multiple checks conducted by VAR.

“It makes it even worse. You just need to see one image. If you see the second, and that’s a goal? Okay. I don’t care [if they don’t have the camera angles]. Whatever they say, it’s too late. I don’t want to be in the hands of people.”

Mikel Arteta stressed on why the goal should not have stood;

“Because for a goal to be allowed, there are certain things prior to that. That the ball hit him one meter from the goal. In here, China, Japan, Spain, Italy, Portugal, this is what happens.

“They have to stand here and explain. We lost three points today, guys. You know what that means? It’s too hard in this league; there’s too much at stake. It’s embarrassing.”
