I can't achieve my goals now -- Mason Mount on Chelsea season

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has admitted that he is unlikely to achieve the goals he set for himself at the start of the 2022/23 season. Speaking in an interview with Matchesfashion, the 24-year-old England international acknowledged that the current campaign has been a difficult one for him as a Chelsea player.

Mount has been a key player for Chelsea in recent seasons, playing a prominent role in the sides managed by both Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel. However, since the appointment of Graham Potter as manager in September 2022, Mount has struggled for form and consistency and has not featured as prominently as in previous seasons.

In addition to his on-pitch struggles, Mount is currently embroiled in a contract stand-off with Chelsea. His current deal with the club is set to expire next year, and negotiations over a contract extension have reportedly hit a stalemate.

Reflecting on his difficult season, Mount told Matchesfashion,

“It’s been tough and I think you learn a lot from a season like this and you can grow a lot. Maybe I am not going to achieve the goals I set at the beginning of this year.”

He went on to explain that he is looking to use his experiences this season to learn and grow as a player. “You look at it like: Why did that happen? How can I affect that for next year? How can I do better? We still have some more to go and hopefully another competition to try and win,” he said.

Mount has been a key player for both Chelsea and England in recent seasons, and his struggles this season have been closely watched by fans and pundits alike. Despite his recent dip in form, however, he remains one of Chelsea’s most talented and promising young players, and his potential for the future remains bright.
