A recent study has shown that the use of multiple social media platforms can increase the chances of depression and anxiety in the users.

The study which was published in “Computers in Human Behaviour” journal showed a linear association between the number of social media platforms used and anxiety.

It also found an independent association between multiple social media platforms and depression.

The study gathered its data from 1,787 youths in the United States between the ages of 19 and 32.

Researchers assessed the link between depression/anxiety and their multiple social media platforms using an adapted Pew Internet Research scale and the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System.

Those who used about 7 to 11 social media platforms had higher chances of having increased levels of both depression and anxiety as opposed to people who use 0-2 platforms.

Neglect, romance drama, simple misinterpretation and bullying are some of the ways depression and anxiety affect people who have multiple social media accounts.

The association between use of social media platforms and depression/anxiety is said to be extremely strong.
