How Udala FC billionaire Philip Udala was murdered, set ablaze

Chairman of Udala FC, Philip Udala, has been assassinated on Tuesday evening, July 13, by unknown gunmen, who ambushed his convoy at Eke-Agu Market junction in Abatete, Idemili North LGA of the state.

According to reports, the attackers initially hit a police facility in the area and were fleeing the scene when they ran into Udala’s convoy.

They reportedly opened fire on his convoy, killing all occupants of the two vehicles before setting it ablaze, with the deceased still inside.

Philip, his security detail and Godsent Eriobu, the manager of Udala FC, were among those killed. The spokesperson of the state police command, Tochi Ikenga, confirmed the incident and said an investigation is ongoing.

 

Chairman of Anambra Independent League (AIFL), Rev. Fr Obinna Dike, confirmed the death of Udala and his club manager yesterday saying: “The amateur league had lost two important members of the football family.

“So sad, our worst fears are becoming reality, we lost them,” he said in a text message to an online publication.

Anambra State Police Command also confirmed the incident but did not speak on number of casualties.
