How two died in Ondo road accident on Sunday

At least two persons have lost their lives in a fatal crash that occurred at the NNPC Mega Station area on the Akure-Owo Expressway, Akure, Ondo State, on Sunday.

 

It was gathered that the accident occurred few metres from the state headquarters of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

An eyewitness said the crash involved a truck, a car and a motorcycle, stating that the motorcylist, while trying to avoid being hit by the truck, swerved to the other lane and faced the oncoming car, which crushed the motorcycle and killed the two persons on it.

The identities of the deceased were not known as of the time of filing this report, but their remains were deposited in the morgue of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Akure.

The Head of Operations, FRSC, Ondo State Command, Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, confirmed the accident to our correspondent on Monday.

“The accident happened after 7pm on Sunday and the two persons on the okada were killed,” he stated.

The crash was said to have sparked a protest in the area as angry youths rushed to the scene and allegedly burnt down the car.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed the crash, saying the police had made some arrests in connection with the burning of the vehicle.
