How Trent Alexander-Arnold got injured versus Arsenal

How Liverpool could potentially be out of title contention after Trent Alexander-Arnold setback

Newly surfaced footage has shed light on the tenacious display of Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Liverpool full-back, who exhibited remarkable determination by playing through injury during the clash against Arsenal.

Despite suffering an injury midway through the game, Alexander-Arnold’s commitment was evident as he soldiered on after sustaining a knock following a duel with Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli. The footage captured the England international visibly grimacing in pain, clutching his knee and displaying signs of discomfort, including biting his jersey.

Remarkably, despite the evident discomfort, Trent Alexander-Arnold persisted and continued to contribute on the field. Notably, he was instrumental in delivering the free-kick that led to Liverpool’s opening goal at Emirates Stadium.

Assuming the captain’s armband in the absence of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold played through the injury, albeit making it noticeable through his movement as the England international was hindered. Despite this, he managed to adjust his position, moving into midfield when Conor Bradley was introduced late in the game.

However, Alexander-Arnold’s admirable perseverance may have come at a cost. Post-match visuals depicted him limping as he exited Emirates Stadium, and subsequent reports revealed a diagnosis of a knee injury. Assistant coach Pep Ljinders confirmed the extent of the injury in a press conference ahead of the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Fulham.

“Ljinders stated, “Trent hyperextended his knee during the last game. He has a little tear in the lateral ligament and will require recovery time. He will be out for a few weeks, and we hope for a smooth recovery.”

Expressing the significance of Alexander-Arnold’s absence, Ljinders emphasized the player’s influential role in the team’s dynamics, stating, “This guy was decisive in all the games, constantly creating from deep and offering the team a high level of flexibility. We will really miss him.”
