First one effective way to communicate effectively is to ensure that you express yourself. This does not mean you should go above normal or cross boundaries but means that you should be confident and state your intentions clearly and be precise.

Second, be an engaged listener that is receptive of what others say. Wait for others to finish and do not cross others while they are talking.
Hear the other person(s) out, let them talk without interruption and really listen carefully to all words including tone of voice and pay attention to body language. Communication is not all about you.
Lastly, control your emotions. Tailor your emotions to not distort your message or influence your communication with others. Be polite, observant and empathetic in your communication with others.
Avoid emotional communication barriers resulting from emotions such as mistrust and fear.
In any situation, effective communication seeks to be understood not only responded to. Respond wisely and be mindful of the environment in which the communication is taking place.
