How Onana led Manchester United to a premier league record

In a resounding victory over Everton on Sunday, Manchester United soared to a historic milestone in the Premier League, securing a 3-0 win at Goodison Park with Andre Onana showcasing his goalkeeping prowess in a memorable match.

The Red Devils seized an early lead thanks to Alejandro Garnacho‘s spectacular third-minute overhead kick, setting the tone for their dominance.

Marcus Rashford extended their advantage in the 56th minute, confidently converting from the penalty spot after a feed from Bruno Fernandes. Anthony Martial sealed the victory with a third goal 15 minutes from the final whistle, securing three crucial league points for Manchester United.

The spotlight, however, shone brightly on Onana, who demonstrated unwavering composure and skill, thwarting Everton’s attempts to score. His performance included a series of remarkable saves, notably denying Idrissa Gueye’s powerful long-range attempt with a brilliant effort.

Manchester United’s triumph not only solidified their victory but also etched their name in Premier League history. The team became the inaugural side to achieve an impressive milestone of 500 clean sheets in the league.

Onana’s contributions extended beyond the record-breaking feat, as he now stands tied for the most clean sheets (5) in the ongoing Premier League season.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper, who faced initial challenges upon joining Manchester United, has shown a remarkable resurgence in recent games. His standout moment, an incredible penalty save against Copenhagen last month, marked a turning point in his form, reminiscent of his exceptional performances during his time at Inter Milan last season.

Erik ten Hag, expressing confidence in Onana’s abilities, foretold a resurgence in form following Manchester United’s defeat to Galatasaray.

“We are happy with our goalkeeping group, definitely with Andre,” he remarked.

“He has the capabilities to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He has shown that and he will do.”

Acknowledging Onana’s strength and resilience in bouncing back from setbacks, ten Hag affirmed,

“We’ve seen in games his great capabilities, also his personality after he made mistakes. He will bounce back, and I am sure he will in the coming games as well.”
