Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accidents leaves 3 dead, 14 injured

On Friday, four persons were confirmed dead while six others sustained injuries in three separate accidents along the Abeokuta-Sagamu and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressways.

The first crash occurred around 10.30am at Showo, along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Road involving a Mazda bus with the number plate AKM125AA and a Kia bus with the registration number KRD34CW.

Three of the five occupants sustained injuries in the crash suspected to have been caused by speeding.

In the second crash, which occurred at Arepo, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a male adult was said to have been killed while two persons were injured.

The Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in the state, Clement Oladele, who confirmed the accident in a statement on Saturday, said it involved a motorcycle with the number plate AYE428UL carrying two passengers.

He said the accident resulted from dangerous driving, adding that the injured victims were rescued to ROA Hospital, Arepo for medical attention.

He stated, “The corpse of the killed victim was deposited at Idera Hospital Morgue, Sagamu. The third crash occurred around 7.49pm along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near Mowe.

“Four persons were involved –all male adults. One of them sustained an injury while the three other male adults died from the crash. Two vehicles were involved with registration number, KTU421CA, a Toyota Camry and a motorbike, with registration number GGE723QF.

“The suspected causes of the crash were route violation (driving against traffic) and dangerous driving. The injured victim was rescued to the hospital while the corpses were deposited at Idera Hospital Morgue, Sagamu.”

Oladele urged motorists not to travel beyond the maximum speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour at construction zones as prescribed by the National Road Traffic Regulations, 2012.
