On Sunday, the Niger State Police Command said it had arrested one suspect in connection with an attempt to kidnap one Sarafa Jimoh of Tufa in the Gurara Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, identified as Zaharadeen Isah, 19, was said to have planned to abduct the victim on May 6, 2019, but was apprehended after Jimoh reported the matter to the police.

It was gathered that Isah had placed an anonymous call to his victim asking him to drop the sum of N300,000 or risk being kidnapped.

The suspect was trailed and arrested by a team of police detectives attached to the Gawu-Babangida Division following a tip-off.

Isah told Northern City News that he was lured into committing the crime by the bad company he kept and the desire to make quick money.

He said, “The amount of money involved in kidnapping business is quite tempting that you cannot help but to join the kidnappers. It is the quickest way to make money without stress.

“Some of the kidnappers are so rich that you will wonder if they are working in oil companies. Some of them used the money to train their girlfriends in school without the girls knowing where they got the money from.

“I regret my action; my parents and friends will be disappointed in me because they don’t know that I am involved in this act.”

The Niger State Police Command spokesman, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect had confessed to the crime.

Abubakar said the case would soon be charged to court.
