How Erik Ten Hag Punished His Manchester United Team

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has taken a unique approach to help his players recover from their 7-0 defeat against Liverpool on Sunday. According to a report by The Mirror, the manager made his players sit in silence and listen to audio of Liverpool’s ecstatic celebrations in the dressing room the morning after the game.

Ten Hag is known for his tough approach to training and motivation. Earlier this season, he made his players run 14 kilometres in training after their shock 4-0 defeat to Brentford in August.

In the case of the Liverpool defeat, Ten Hag reportedly told his players that they were lucky to return to Manchester on the team bus, rather than face the wrath of their away supporters.

The Mirror’s report indicates that Ten Hag warned his squad that a repeat of the Liverpool thrashing would result in them being forced to train with the club’s Under-21 team. The manager also stressed that his players should expect to have more sessions with sports psychologist Rainier Koers to help them cope with the humiliation.

Manchester United will have an opportunity to move on from their devastating defeat when they face Real Betis in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

While they have been effectively eliminated from the Premier League title race, Ten Hag and his players will be hoping to keep their chances of adding another trophy to their Carabao Cup win alive.
