How Davido’s ‘Fall’ Video Got Hundred Million Views On YouTube

Fall crooner, Davido just achieved a new feat as the video for his single fall which was released in 2017 becomes the first Nigerian and African music video to amass a hundred million views on YouTube. We can all agree that both the song which was produced by Kiddominant and the music video which was directed by Daps were top-notch but we all can also agree that there are other amazing songs and music video from Africa but none of them were able to get 100 million views on YouTube. The question is “how did Davido achieve this feat?”. We (Natirovibe) made our own research and here is what we came up with.
In January 2017, Davido signed a deal with Sony Music, a music company which can be considered as the biggest music distribution platform in the world and housed artists like the Late Micheal Jackson, Late Prince, Shakira, John Legend and many other great artists.
With one of the greatest music distribution company distributing your songs, you just have to record a good song and your song will get to every end of the world.
At the initial stage, Davido wasn’t happy about the deal as it tried to change and control the style of his music, but after he cried out and worked things out with his label, he was allowed to do music his own way. This led to the single “If” which was a massive hit song as at the time it was released and was produced by Tekno. He followed that up with the smashing hit single “Fall” which was produced by kiddominant.
With Sony Music spearheading the distribution of such a great song, the success of the song was a guarantee. The song was promoted in Nigeria via the traditional means of music promotion and it performed really well in the Country and also in other African countries. Soon as we (Nigerians) were over with the song, then the song started gaining traction in the U.S and was getting played by top radio stations in the U.S and in no time the views starting growing again massively. The song was properly distributed and it also got the attention of Christiano Ronaldo whose name was mentioned in the song and he followed Davido on Instagram. See screenshots of comments from those listening to the song on the U.S radio stations.
We feel that the Sony deal is helping him push his songs because an African song doesn’t just start gaining such massive airplay on top U.S radio stations. Tell us other factors which you think led to the high amount of views on the video in the comment section below.
