Charity Maduka, the wife of Nigerian billionaire and president of Coscharis Group Cosmas Maduka, has passed on.

According to a statement on Sunday by the group, Mrs Maduka, vice president of the group, died on Saturday in Nnewi, Anambra State.

“With gratitude to the Almighty God and total submission to His will, the board and the entire executive team of Coscharis Group hereby announce the sudden death of our Vice-President, Mrs Charity Maduka,” the group’s spokesman Abiona Babarinde said in the statement.

“She died peacefully in her family home in Nnewi, Anambra State, Nigeria on the evening of Saturday, November 27, 2021.”

Babarinde said further details will be announced by the family at a later time.

Corporate big player and Coscharis Motors owner, Cosmas Maduka co-owned his company with Charity N. Maduka who was the Vice-president of the Coscharis Group since its inception.

In an interview with Plus TV Africa, Cosmas spoke about the impact the deceased wife had in the early days of his career.

According to him, when he met her, he was poor, adding that her parents, who belonged to the upper class at that time, believed she was insane when she insisted on getting married to him.

He had said, “Despite all the hurdles, she stuck with me. This is the reason today, she owns a part of the company and has free access to the finances of the company,” Cosmas added.

In a press release to mourn her, the Anambra State government through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C. Don Adinuba said Mrs Maduka was not just the wife of the chairman of one of Nigeria’s most successful businesses but the co-founder of the Coscharis conglomerate.

The release read: “The government and people of Anambra State were delighted when a few years ago the Coscharis Group decided to set up a humongous modern farm in the state in response to the government’s Think Home campaign which sought to create or raise the consciousness of investors from the state about the imperative of establishing businesses at home.”

Adinuba said Coscharis today has one of the largest farms in the Southeast geopolitical zone, with a sophisticated irrigation system, complete with a modern big dam, which enables it to engage in both rainy and dry season rice farming.

Adinuba said Governor Obiano has already called on Dr Maduka to commiserate with him on the death of his wife and also condoled with the chairman of the Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government, Prince Chukwudi Orizu, as well as the traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Orizu, over Mrs Maduka’s death.
