How Ancelotti's new Madrid Contract opens path for Liverpool

The passion to manage Liverpool in the future, is there for Xabi Alonso, and with his connection to the club, it isn’t a hard suggestion to believe the Spaniard could potential suit up for the managerial position should Jurgen Klopp decide not to renew terms.

Liverpool Football Club finds itself in the midst of managerial speculation following Carlo Ancelotti’s contract extension at Real Madrid, sparking discussions about potential successors to current manager Jurgen Klopp.

Real Madrid’s recent confirmation of Ancelotti’s extended tenure until 2026 closed the door on earlier speculations about the Italian’s departure, influenced in part by Manchester City’s commanding victory over Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals last season.

Ancelotti’s revival at the club, buoyed by the emergence of Jude Bellingham, garnered renewed support from Florentino Perez and the board.

In the wake of Ancelotti’s continuity, Liverpool might pursue Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, formerly linked to the Real Madrid job and renowned for his distinguished playing career at Anfield, amassing over 150 appearances for the club.

While Klopp remains under contract at Anfield until 2026, speculations have arisen regarding a potential exit, particularly if Liverpool secures the Premier League title this season, potentially culminating in a departure on a high note for the German coach.

Should Klopp opt for an exit, Alonso emerges as a prime contender for the managerial position at Liverpool. Fans view the Spaniard, currently excelling at Bayer Leverkusen, as an ideal replacement given his five-season stint as a player on Merseyside.

Alonso’s managerial success at Bayer Leverkusen is apparent, with the club presently leading the Bundesliga, holding a four-point advantage over arch-rivals Bayern Munich with an extra game in hand.

Following Real Madrid ruling themselves out of the race, Alonso is expected to draw interest from several top European clubs. However, Liverpool could potentially emerge as the frontrunners should Klopp decide to part ways with the club.

In an earlier interview, Alonso revealed his aspirations, expressing a dream of managing Liverpool, stating, “Yes for sure, I have dreamt of that, but first I have to prove myself and prepare.”

He continued,

“If I decide somewhere along the way to take my chances as a manager, my link, my commitment, my passion with Liverpool is there. Why not? We will see if we can cross paths in our ways.
