Barakat Adio, a housewife, was stabbed to death on Sunday, February 11, following a disagreement with a neighbor, Cynthia Aigbondon, while obtaining water from a public tap in Lagos’ Ajegunle neighbourhood.

According to eyewitnesses, the dead and the suspect got into a violent dispute about who would get to gather water from the area’s lone public well. Eyewitnesses said that the debate turned into a brawl. In the heat of the event, Cynthia raced inside her one-room apartment and grabbed a kitchen knife, reportedly stabbing the victim.

Cynthia was also apprehended by other neighbors at the site as she attempted to flee after spotting blood spilling from the deceased’s side.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the event to reporters, saying it was reported at the station by the late woman’s husband, Lukmon Adio.

Hundeyin said that the incident is being probed.
