House of Reps reject motion seeking to stop increase in price of Fuel
On Wednesday, the members of the House of Representatives decided not to stop the increase in petrol prices around the fueling stations in the country.
TopNaija understands that the sudden increase in the fuel price, from N537 per litre to about N618 per litre has caused outcry and sorrows to Nigerians, mostly motorists, leading to a drastic increase in transportation fees.
With that said, the House of Reps, however, rejected the motion to stop the increase in the price of fuel.
The reason for this, they said, was to investigate the sudden increase and the resultant increase in transport fares.
According to its members, since the investigation in in route, stopping the increase of the fuel price by accepting the motion will amount to pre-empting the work of the investigative committee.
In a motion of ‘urgent public importance’ by Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, the House asked the group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari and oil marketers to appear before an ad hoc committee to explain the increase.
