Historic Morocco Praised For World Cup Accomplishments

Morocco coach, Walid Regragui may have been in tears after the team’s failure to take down Croatia in a 3rd round playoff in the world cup, but the exploits of the Atlas Lions have brought a lot of pride to the African continent and even gone far to aid Africa’s quest for more teams in the next edition of the tournament.

Morocco received quite the praise from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the Atlas Lions’ outstanding performance at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup despite succumbing to a 2-1 defeat against Croatia to finish 4th overall in the competition.

Walid Regragui’s team lost to Croatia 2-1 on Saturday night, dropping them to fourth place overall in the league after putting up an impressive performance on the night.

In the history of the FIFA World Cup, it was the highest placing for an African nation.

The first team from the continent to advance to the semifinals was the North Africans.

The fact that Morocco eliminated Spain and Portugal from the competition made it a truly memorable performance for them.

To honor the Atlas Lions, CAF posted on social media.

It Tweeted;
” -Victories
– Teams in the knockout stages for the second time
– Best ever finish for an African nation
– Beating previous champions
-A #FIFAWorldCup Campaign to remember for Africa, “CAF

Morocco’s problems in the game were the same issues faced against France in the Semi-final; lack of proper finishing and a shaky defense, which the Croatian team largely took advantage of in their win.

This sets Croatia as having achieved top 3 finishes, 3 times since the national team made its debut in France 1998.
