He's Getting Much Better -- Spalletti Hypes Osimhen

Napoli manager, Luciano Spalletti, has praised striker Victor Osimhen, saying that he is now better than ever. The Nigerian international scored a brace in Napoli’s 3-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg on Wednesday night, helping his team to a 5-0 aggregate victory and securing a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Osimhen opened the scoring for Napoli with a towering header late in the first half, before adding a second goal on the 53rd minute after being set up by captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo. The 23-year-old forward also scored in the first leg of the tie.

Speaking to Sky Italia after the game, Spalletti praised Osimhen’s performance and highlighted his ability to combine with the rest of the team. “He is an excellent striker who can be a bit of a soloist and makes these sudden surges, but he also has to combine with the rest of the team. He is starting to do that now and we are very happy,” he said.

Osimhen joined Napoli from French side Lille in 2020 for a reported fee of €70 million, and has been in impressive form this season, scoring 23 goals in 28 appearances across all competitions. He has become a key player for the Serie A side and has been linked with several top European clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool.

Napoli face a rather more uphill battle should they get to face either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, with the draw set to take place on Friday. It will be interesting to see how far Napoli goes in the competition and how far Victor Osimhen will lead the team this season.
