He Is Not Even That Good –Agbonlahor Tears Into Mason Mount

At the moment, Chelsea midfielder, Mason Mount cuts across as the conflicted figure owing to his standoff with Chelsea regarding a new contract extension at the club, alongside his poor form on the pitch.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has criticized the Chelsea midfielder for demanding a wage of £300,000 per week.

According to reports, Mason Mount, whose current deal with the Blues expires in 2024, is in talks with the club over a new contract, but is demanding a significant increase in pay from his current salary of £80,000 per week.

Agbonlahor, who was one of Aston Villa’s top strikers during his playing days, believes that Mount has not done enough this season to warrant such a high salary. The 24-year-old has scored just three goals and provided six assists in 31 games across all competitions for Chelsea this season.

Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor said, “This season Mason Mount has not done anywhere near enough to demand that kind of money. He should be having a wage decrease rather than an increase…He’s not as good as he thinks. So he can’t be making silly demands. I’d let him go on a free when his contract expires.”

The former Aston Villa striker also suggested that Mount needs a reality check, and is not currently among Chelsea’s best XI. Agbonlahor’s comments come as Chelsea continues to negotiate with Mount’s representatives over a new deal.

Mount, who has been a regular for Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel, has played 35 games in all competitions this season, helping the Blues reach the final of the Carabao Cup and the knockout stages of the Champions League in that time.

It remains to be seen whether the club will agree to meet the midfielder’s wage demands in their negotiations, however, Mason Mount has eyes from other clubs, with Liverpool reportedly paying close attention to the situation.
