“He is a funny man” — Haaland mocks Chelsea star
It is not a beef but rather a friendly banter, and Chelsea star Marc Cucurella is to blame for it but Erling Haaland took it to another level.
Manchester City star Erling Haaland after aiding his side to their first premier league win of the season, added another highlight to his growing list of memorable moments, but this time it wasn’t just his goal that stole the show.
During City’s 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the former Borussia Dortmund star left fans—and Marc Cucurella—stunned when he coldly ignored the Spanish full-back’s plea for help after going down with a cramp. The incident quickly became the talking point of the match, overshadowing the action on the pitch and lighting up social media.
The snub wasn’t just an ordinary one. It came on the heels of Cucurella’s playful jabs at Haaland during Spain’s Euro 2024 celebrations.

Premier League Wrap-up: What happened, what didn’t happen?
After Spain’s victory over England, Cucurella couldn’t resist taunting Haaland, leading chants about making the Norwegian striker tremble. The cheeky song, which included verses about Cucurella enjoying paella and Estrella, was sung not just on stage in Berlin but also in Spain’s hotel, making sure Haaland heard about it.
But when it came time for Cucurella to seek a bit of sportsmanship from Haaland on Sunday, the City striker didn’t even flinch, walking right past his cramping opponent without a second thought. Pedro Neto eventually helped Cucurella out, but the damage was done—Haaland’s icy response quickly became the moment of the match.
Fans on social media were quick to jump in, with one user commenting, “Cucurella got cooked and got a taste of his own medicine,” while another added, “So he takes Haaland’s shirt last season, sings a song about him this summer, and now is asking him for help? Karma works fast.” Even rival fans found it amusing, with a United supporter writing, “Find this hilarious even as a United fan. Fully deserved.”
After the final whistle, the Manchester City star couldn’t resist addressing the incident. Speaking to Viaplay Fotball, he described Cucurella as a “funny man,” noting the irony of Cucurella asking for his shirt last season only to turn around and troll him months later.
Haaland then took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts on the game, celebrating his 100th appearance for Manchester City with a goal and a win, making no mention of the cramp incident but leaving fans to connect the dots.
