Hausa Actress Banned for Cuddling

Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (Moppan) has expelled popular Kannywood (Hausa Movies) actress Rahma Sadua from the Hausa-language film industry for hugging and cuddling Jos based pop star ClassiQ in a musical video entitled ‘I Love You’.

MOPPAN is a coalition of associations that set rules and regulations governing the conduct of actors and actresses, as well as production of movies in northern Nigeria. The Hausa movie industry, commonly known as Kannywood, has been under fire from conservative Muslim clerics who accuse it of corrupting people’s values.

In a statement, MOPPAN said it hoped Ms. Sadau’s expulsion would serve as a deterrent for other actors. Its code of conduct requires actors to avoid doing anything which violates Islamic and Hausa culture, reported the BBC.

rahama sadau instaClassiQ in an interview with Premium Times expressed his sadness with the ban of Rahama Sadau from Kannywood because of her role in his musical video. He said “I actually asked and begged Rahama Sadau to be part of the video because she is a popular figure in the entertainment industry and that is all. I wanted a popular face in the video,” he said.

“When the whole thing blew because of her appearance in the video, I got shocked. In fact I am still not myself till now. I am shocked by her expulsion.” The adversity of Ms. Sadau may become a major promoter of the controversial romantic musical video presently with 56,328 views on You Tube.

The beautiful face of Kanywood is not a stranger to controversy, as she was suspended for six months by the same MOPAN in March 2015 over a sexual harassment claim she made against Adam Zango, a movie producer/director that led to a social media war via Instagram between the two. Ms. Sadau later apologised for her rant on Instagram, calling it childish while Mr. Zango on his own Instagram apologised to Ms. Sadau and her manager, actor, Ali Nuhu.

She earlier today went on her instagram to shed some more light on the matter herself:

The beautiful face of Kannywood Rahama Sadau made a cross over to Nollywood in August 2015 starring in the movie “Thy Light will Come” alongside Mercy Johnson and Majid Michel- we wonder in the face of this present ban if Nollywood becomes her new habitat?
