Harvey Weinstein offers $25million settlement to his accusers

Movie producer Harvey Weinstein is offering a $25 million settlement that could settle most of his sexual assault case.

The American producer has been accused of sexual assault, harassment, and misconduct by several women, including movie, stars Lupita Nyong’oAngelina JolieGwyneth Paltrow, and Salma Hayek.

In 2018, his film production company, Weinstein Co., declared bankruptcy.

Variety reports that “the settlement would also resolve the class action case against him and his board of directors in accusations of a pattern of sexual misconduct”.

Under the deal, the insurance companies for the Weinstein Co. would pay the victims with the most serious claims $500,000 apiece. A larger pool of claimants would split the balance of the funds. The deal (which was first reported by the New York Times) has been hammered out with the assistance of the New York attorney general’s office, must still be approved by the judge overseeing the Weinstein Co. bankruptcy case.

And “at least four” plaintiffs are not interested in the settlement, and “at least three” are expected to oppose.
