Former Tottenham Hotspur star Darren Bent has weighed in on Manchester United defender Harry Maguire and his performance against visitors, Fulham, particularly the England international’s challenge on Sasa Lukic during their Premier League encounter on Saturday.
The challenge saw Harry Maguire plant his studs on Lukic’s ankle in the first half, resulting in a yellow card for the ex-United captain which many found controversial from the on-pitch official.
Bent, speaking in his capacity as a pundit for Optus Sport, expressed his views on the incident, suggesting that Maguire’s tackle warranted a red card upon review.
“Seeing it on the replay, probably a red,” Bent commented. “I think he is so late and rash. You talk about endangering an opponent, if you look at his ankle there, Lukic, he is fortunate he did not get a nasty injury.
“For me, yeah, it is a red. Looking at that last replay it is a red.”
Maguire’s challenge however wasn’t enough to stop Manchester United from leaving the pitch without dropping vitals as Fulham went on to win the tie 2-1 win at Old Trafford.
Goals from Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi secured the victory for Fulham, adding to the disappointment for Manchester United and their supporters.
