Hansi Flick introduces bizarre pre-season ritual at Barca

Newly appointed manager of Barcelona, Hansi Flick is bringing something very unexpected to the Camp Nou that could change the direction of the club moving forward.

According to reports, the German has introduced a novel requirement for his players’ pre-season medical assessments: dental tests. As the former Bayern Munich and Germany boss takes charge of Les Cules, he’s making sure every aspect of his squad’s health is scrutinized, right down to their teeth.

Hansi Flick stepped into the managerial role following the end of last season, replacing Xavi. However, due to the ongoing Euro 2024 and Copa America tournaments, only a handful of senior players were present for his first training session.

Among them was midfielder Oriol Romeu, who joined eight other seniors in undergoing the usual pre-season medical checks. These checks traditionally include blood and urine analysis and cardiology tests. Flick, however, has added a fifth component: dental tests.

This might seem unusual, but there’s sound reasoning behind it. Studies indicate a significant prevalence of dental issues among footballers, which can lead to performance-impacting injuries. According to Harley Street Dental Studio, dental problems can affect an athlete’s posture, strength, power, balance, and overall ease of movement.
