The Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR) has lauded the Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency for its recent decision to refund $50 to pilgrims who paid for Hadaya. This refund follows a downward price adjustment from the company responsible for slaughtering animals on behalf of the pilgrims.
It is reported that Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Rabiu Dabo (retired), a board member of the Agency who chaired the Hadaya Committee, confirmed the refund. Pilgrims have the option to receive the refund either in Saudi Arabia or Nigeria, based on their preference.
In a statement released on Sunday, IHR praised the Kaduna agency for its transparency. The organization emphasized the importance of clarity regarding Hadaya payments and the execution process, especially amidst concerns about secrecy from other state agencies.
“Pilgrims deserve to know how much was expended on the Hadaya project on their behalf, whether it is less or higher than what they are charged by the committee set up by States Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards,” the statement read. IHR stressed that such transparency would foster trust and confidence among the public and future pilgrims.
The IHR noted that while some states charge higher fees for Hadaya services, Kaduna State stands out for its open communication and accountability. The commendation specifically highlighted the agency’s effort to refund approximately 700 pilgrims who paid for Hadaya in advance, taking into account foreign exchange differences.
“We urge all officials to emulate the example set by Kaduna State and refund pilgrims if there is any downward review of the price of rams purchased for their pilgrims. Doing so will earn you rewards more than you can imagine,” IHR added.
The Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency’s initiative has been recognized as a model of best practices, potentially setting a new standard for transparency and fairness in Hajj-related services across Nigeria.
