Between 2-ferns: Hadiza El-Rufai claps back at Senator Shehu Sani
If there is one thing certain, it is that former Kaduna State Senator Shehu Sani isn’t the only one that knows how to use social media platform X to send a message as former Kaduna State First Lady, Hadiza El-Rufai lockhorns with the ex-politician.
In an unexpected showdown, the ex-first lady took Shehu Sani to the cleaners over a grammatical error in his recent tweet when the political critic made a statement criticizing the President’s flight abroad.
The Senator, who has made himself infamous amongst his political elites, addressed President Tinubu’s frequent travels and their alleged impact on the Nigerian economy.
In his tweet, Shehu Sani wrote:
“New law of economics; When the President travels out, Taxes and Prices goes up.”
Known for her love of correcting English on social media, Mrs. El-Rufai quickly seized the moment, pointing out that Sani’s post should have read “go up,” not “goes up.” Her sharp correction instantly went viral, igniting a flurry of reactions from amused Nigerians who couldn’t resist weighing in on the grammatical showdown.
While Sani’s tweet aimed to critique economic policies, El-Rufai’s response has shifted the conversation to a lighter, yet controversial, angle—grammar policing in Nigerian politics. As the debate continues, the question remains: Will Sani brush it off, or is this just the beginning of a social media grammar battle?
