Gunmen Strikes Again: Abduct doctor, lawyer, 5 others in Kogi

The issue of Gunmen terrorizing civilians in Nigeria isn’t any more a new topic as the recent reports state that another group of armed bandits have abducted 7 people in Kogi State.

The 7 kidnapped are listed as including a doctor and a lawyer at the Geregu-Ajaokuta road in the middle-belt State.

It is reported that this abduction happened at about 2pm on Tuesday with the State police command confirming the incident on Wednesday in Lokoja.

According to eyewitness account, the gunmen laid siege on said road for hours.

They shot sporadically and in the process, many passengers were abducted, with many also receiving various degrees of injuries.

The account further adds that among those abducted to unknown destinations were Mr Joe Abba, his wife and Barrister Abba Aduojo, who were returning from a burial in a village near Alloma in Ofu Local Government Area of the State.

Also abducted is an unidentified doctor who was revealed to be on his way back to Lokoja from an official assignment to the Prince Abubakar Audu University Teaching Hospital, Anyigba

“They were kidnapped at gun-point around 2pm; my friend’s wife was shot in the leg and is presently recuperating at the Federal Medical Centre, lokoja”, said a relative of one of the victims.

According to the State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, William Ovye Aya, the command got wind of the attack and drafted the men of the Rapid Response Squad operating in the area.

“Seven persons were abducted to the bush; six people were rescued with bullet wounds and six vehicles were recovered at the scene of the incident,” he said.

He added that a combined manhunt against the hoodlums has commenced, in order to rescue the seven abducted persons in their custody.
