Unidentified gunmen have killed a member of the All Progressive Congress Party (APC), Samuel Kayode, popularly known as Ekpo Kinkin, at the Agboju area of Lagos State.

Top Naija reports that Kayode who is also Vice Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the area was shot dead by gunmen on Thursday evening.

The deceased was said to have attended the flag-off of the party’s local government campaign at Oriade Local Development Area, Thursday evening before he was murdered.

Jimoh Buhari, spokesman for the chairman, NURTW, Musiliu Akinsanya (a.k.a Oluomo), confirmed the situations surrounding Kayode’s death, stating, “He was protecting a fellow politician, Wale Yusuf, from harassment when the gunmen shot him dead.”

In accordance with an eyewitness, the deceased was shot in the leg outside the LCDA secretariat.

He was said to have been rushed to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Navy Town, Ojo, where he was confirmed dead.

A member of the party who did not want to be named was shocked that a bullet in the leg could claim someone’s life.

He narrated, “Ekpo Kinkin was a very popular person in this area. He was shot, right in Oriade LCDA secretariat, close to Agboju police station.

“During the stampede caused by the gunshot, a man suspected to have pulled the trigger, was said to have been seen walking casually out of the premises.

“We have lodged a complaint to the Police. We hope they will fish out Ekpo’s killer.”

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said he would return our reporter’s call, but he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
