Travelling these days on Nigerian roads should be seen as some form of a suicide mission that needs an insurance agreement signed between travellers and the government, considering how many reports of kidnap and death that have met people on the way as a result of banditry.

The new report states that scores of travellers have seen themselves kidnapped by gunmen who hijacked 3 vehicles along the Emuoha area of the East-West road of Rivers State, a few days after 3 passengers who were kidnapped along the Kalabari-Emuoha road had regained their freedom.

In the report, it is said that the gunmen diverted passengers to a nearby forest within the area, following an ambush in Evekwu -Rumuodogo communities in Emuoha on Wednesday evening.

The specific number of occupants in the 3 vehicles that were hijacked could not be determined but sources could confirm a large number of travellers being moved into a forest.

The local vigilante group in the area who had confirmed the incident said the vehicles which were travelling to Port Harcourt from various destinations had included a commercial bus of passengers, a Siena vehicle carrying goods and another private car.

The group according to their report had managed to trace the footsteps of the captives after the incident occurred, but feared going further as they were ill equipped and were oblivious to what laid ahead.

Some policemen from the Rumuji division were said to have visited the scene on Thursday morning and when contacted, the acting spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-koko, disclosed she was yet to get any report.
