Bandits release one abducted Greenfield varsity student, 16 remaining

A number of gunmen have kidnapped some students during an attack on a private institution, Greenfield University in Kaduna State.

The attack took place on Tuesday night at Greenfield University and the number of students kidnapped is still not known.

The private university is situated along the Kaduna–Abuja Highway in Chikun Local Government Area, and also the first private university in the state established about three years ago.

The most recent incident was the first main attack started by bandits on communities around the Kaduna-Abuja Highway since 300 female soldiers were deployed to the general area in January this year.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the incident to Top Naija.

As indicated by eyewitnesses, the gunmen attacked Greenfield University last night and started shooting inconsistently, before kidnapping some of the students.

Local people stated that the university with about forty students population does not have enough security on the ground, in spite of being situated in one of the axis of abduction, a condition which they consider it easier for the bandits to gain easy access into the university.

Lately, Kaduna has been confronting series of attacks by bandits as well as assaults on schools.

On March 11th, they assaulted the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization Afaka in the Igabi Local Government Area of the state and abducted 39 students.

Though ten out of the number have been freed, the other students are still in captivity.
