Guinea-Bissau Arrive For Super Eagles AFCON Qualifier Clash

The Guinea-Bissau national football team, known as the Djurtus, has started their preparation for their upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The double-header match will be held on Wednesday at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja and the reverse fixture will take place on Monday at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium, Bissau.

The Djurtus’ squad, consisting of 25 foreign professionals, arrived at the Osvaldo Vieira International Airport in Bissau in the early hours of Monday morning, ahead of their first official training session later that day. The team is under the guidance of their head coach, Baciro Cande, who will be responsible for ensuring that the players are in top form for the crucial matches.

As it stands, the Super Eagles are currently leading Group A with six points, while the Djurtus are in second place with four points, just two adrift of Nigeria. The other teams in the group are Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe.

With the stakes so high, both teams will be hoping to secure maximum points from the double-header, as qualification for the AFCON is at stake. The top two teams from each group will automatically qualify for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Cote d’Ivoire in January 2023.

The Djurtus have been training hard ahead of the matches, and fans will be hoping that their team can pull off a surprise upset against the Super Eagles, who are considered one of the powerhouses of African football. The Nigerian team, on the other hand, will be keen to maintain their unbeaten run in the qualifying campaign and secure their spot in the AFCON.

As the countdown to the matches continues, football fans across the continent will be eagerly anticipating the outcome of what promises to be an exciting and closely contested encounter between two top African teams.
