Guardiola to Leave for Serie A
The speculations have always surrounded when and if Manchester City manager, Josep Guardiola will ever leave the English Premier League, and if so to which club.
And now it is being suggested by the Chief Executive Officer of City, Ferran Soriano that the manager could leave for an Italian Serie A club should he not extend his contract with Manchester City.
This comes after debates of whether the Spaniard will see out the remainder of his contract, move elsewhere or renew before the contract expires.
Pep Guardiola is not short of admirers though as Brazil Football Association have played around the idea of having the Catalan coach its senior men’s team immediately after the world cup in Qatar.
The report was brought forward to the manager during the back end of the recently concluded season to which the former Bayern Munich coach smiled and noted he was happy at Manchester.
Guardiola has coached just 3 football clubs on retiring from his playing career, and his management has seen a lot of success in a number of trophies won, from Barcelona to Bayern and to Manchester City.
About the move from Manchester City, Soriano revealed this while speaking at a press conference unveiling City Group’s majority stakeholder purchase in Serie B side Palermo on Monday.
“He asked if it’s sunny in Palermo. Perhaps, he will work here one day,” Soriano was quoted saying by Calciomercato.
“He knows everything we do and he knows Italian football well. Like the others, he is excited about the deal.”
It remains to be seen if Guardiola will eventually seal a move to the Italian side, and even if he would, it can be debated if he will choose to coach Palermo like the City CEO claims.
But one thing is for sure, Premier League clubs and fans aside Manchester City’s are tired of the Spaniard and are just waiting for the day he will leave the league.
Should that day come, Liverpool manager, and great rival of Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp would be the happiest.
“Imagine how many league titles we could have won if we didn’t have a strong side like Manchester City?” the German would lament.
